Michael joined WWC Capital Group in 2008. He focuses his efforts on the firm’s restructuring and turnaround practice. He has extensive experience in leverage lending, distressed debt, mezzanine and equity investing in the media, communications and entertainment industries. Over the past twelve years, he has completed dozens of transactions and has been an active member of several boards of directors.

Prior to WWC, Michael was a Managing Director with MCG Capital Corp. While at MCG he focused on mezzanine and equity investing in the media, communications and entertainment industries. His responsibilities included originating, underwriting and managing a portfolio of over $200 million of debt and equity investments. During his last eighteen months with MCG, he focused on the restructuring and turnaround of one of MCG’s largest equity investments. His work included structuring the conversion of debt to equity, replacing senior management, establishing clear strategic imperatives with the new team, approaching strategic and financial investors as well as improving financial and managerial reporting.

Prior to MCG, Michael was with GE Media and Communications Group. Over his eight-year tenure, he worked in various capacities including workout, portfolio management, origination and underwriting of leveraged loans. In his last role at GE, he was SVP-Team Leader of the Special Situations Group. In this role, he was the primary liaison between the media and communications group and GE’s National Restructuring Group. In addition, he originated and underwrote distressed debt investments within the media, communication and entertainment industries. Prior to the Special Situations Group, he was a SVP-Team Leader for the Technology Group.

Mr. McHugh received his undergraduate business degree from University of Richmond and his MBA with honors from Emory University. Michael is married with two children and lives in McLean, VA.
